Learn the basics of leather working! Come make your own sunglasses case, just in time for the upcoming 4th of July weekend. 

Starting with your choice of an Italian cow leather you will learn the essential skills of leather working: cutting, punching, edge dying and treatment, rivet setting and closure attachment, and saddle-stitch sewing! Learning these foundational leather working skills means you will leave this class not only with a beautiful hand-made sunglasses case, but also the knowledge and confidence to take on more challenging projects in the future.

Treat yourself to this immersive plein air experience at Full Bloom Farm at the heart of Lummi Island, ‘In the Footsteps of Monet.’ Like Monet, at his beloved garden at Giverny France, we will respond to the changing light of Plein Air painting discipline. Morning Exercises will help us see and understand what we are painting. Guidance from Trish Harding will result in personal successes for all painters no matter the skill level!

Ikebana is the traditional Japanese art of flower arranging. As with all traditional Japanese arts, Ikebana shares the themes of balance, harmony and clearing of the mind. For many people, Ikebana is a meditative practice. Akemi teaches and practices “Sogestsu” Ikebana, known for its greater freedom of individual expression.

Kintsugi (金継ぎ, gold joinery) is the Japanese craft of repairing ceramics. Fractures are no longer weak points, but beautiful elements. Mended breakages are celebrated with gold instead of being hidden. This philosophy is often taught as embracing imperfections in our life, the beauty of human flaws. While the traditional method is more challenging and requires precaution with the materials, the “modern” Kintsugi method that will be taught in this class uses accessible materials and is ideal for beginners. This class will be an introduction to the art of Kintsugi.

During this informal class, we’ll taste a handful of different wines focusing on family-owned domaines producing wines with a reflection of their terroirs, practicing sustainable, organic and biodiverse farming and a natural approach to winemaking. We’ll talk about farming, cellar practices, style and whatever else bubbles up… Are you or someone you love natural wine curious? If so, this class is the perfect place to start! Class will also include nibbles that we’ll pair with the wines.

Dwight will teach students the process of this 18th century Japanese art form of fish printing. This is a special opportunity to learn from a master who rarely offers classes outside his home studio in Mission Viejo, CA. Students will be immersed in the art of Gyotaku and learn about the history, the preparation of the fish, the tools, the processes, and even the philosophies involved.

In a one day class Barry will guide you through the ancient process of simple chasing (embossing) and repoussé on thin copper sheet to create two different copper mirrors. Using a variety of texturing tools, some as simple as a ball point pen, you will create copper surrounds of your own design that will frame a 6 “ mirror. This is a fun class that might open up your own experimenting with the magical qualities and beauty of working with copper.

Learn to draw the figure from the “Inside Out” with the simple concept of Length & Direction. Whether you are a beginning or returning student, come learn to draw what you see ... not what you think you see! Using a clothed model, Trish Harding will guide you in learning the elements of gesture, shape, value, and more which will infuse your drawings with dynamism and drama. Work at your own pace as you learn to draw better than you ever thought possible!

Join us for a full day dedicated to learning the art of mending with Erin Eggenburg! We love mending our clothing in the fall when it’s time to pull out the sweaters and take stock of the holes that we might have worn into our work pants over the summer
