“The symbiosis between art and food has a long tradition, which is easily forgotten in our “instant gratification” culture, yet the fermenting journey is in itself enjoyable and rewarding. I love building awareness of health through experiments and playfulness and believe this symbiosis can sustain an aware and joyful community.” ~ Hadar Iron

Elisabeth Marshall, Full Bloom Farm

Elisabeth Marshall has lived on Lummi Island for 35 years with her husband, where they raised 3 children. Their first endeavor on Lummi was restoring a turn-of-the-century waterfront former grocery and running it as a successful farm-to-table restaurant. After many years running a restaurant, Lis decided to expand the farm into growing cut flowers and peonies, calling it Full Bloom Farm. She grew 100+ different varieties of rare and beautiful peonies and she and Mark have since expanded the farm into a diversified fruit and vegetable operation supplying the island with seasonal produce and eggs almost year round. The farm gets bigger and more productive every year as it reflects the new interests of both Lis and Mark. The most recent expansion has been growing & fermenting indigo plants for dye and making salt from the surrounding sea using solar-evaporation.

The farm has been both a labor of love and a sustaining force; and it’s provided a welcoming location for Lis to share her deep background in food, flowers, gardening, and sewing with her community and visitors to the island.
